SAMPHON 15.7" Monitor Light Bar review

Screen-bar lighting for a fifth of the BenQ price

4.2Best for: Late-night work on a crowded desk
SAMPHON 15.7" Monitor Light Bar in a home office setup

A clip-on light bar that lights your desk without glaring on the screen. Not as refined as the BenQ ScreenBar Halo 2, but at around $30 it is the easiest lighting upgrade anyone can make.

What we liked

  • No screen glare
  • USB powered, no extra plug
  • Adjustable brightness and colour temperature
  • Takes zero desk space

What we didn't

  • Controls on the bar, not a remote dial
  • Clip may not fit very thin bezels
  • Lower colour accuracy than premium bars

Who it is for

Anyone working after dark on a desk with no room for a lamp. The bar sits on the monitor bezel, throws light down onto the keyboard and puts nothing in your line of sight.

What we like

Asymmetric optics keep reflections off the panel, brightness and colour temperature are both adjustable, and it runs off the monitor USB port so there is no extra plug.

Where it falls short

The dial is on the unit rather than a desktop puck, the counterweight clip does not suit every ultra-thin bezel, and colour accuracy is a step below the BenQ.
