Monitor Scaling on macOS, Explained Properly
Why 4K at 27" looks perfect and 4K at 32" does not, and what to do about it.

Retina scaling in one paragraph
macOS renders at 2× the logical resolution and downsamples. At 27" 4K, the logical resolution is a clean 1920×1080 at 2×, so every pixel maps perfectly and text is razor-sharp.
What goes wrong at 32"
At 32" 4K you usually want more logical space than 1920×1080, so macOS renders at a non-integer scale and resamples. It looks fine — but not as crisp, and it costs GPU overhead.
The practical rule
Buy 27" 4K if you want the sharpest text. Buy 32" 4K if you want the space and can accept slightly softer rendering. Avoid 27" 1440p on macOS if text quality is your priority.
